You have just entered my hiking page, if you want to learn some new backpacking tricks I hope I can help you with that here on my site.

Don't leave without these things, they are very important to have on a backpacking trip.
| CAMPING STOVE Simple wood stoves are making a comeback bigtime. After all it makes perfect sense, why should you bring fuel with you when you can burn wood instead. The Trailstove by the small company Stratus has come up with the best design so far. It has no batteries or fans that can break down (some wood stoves on the market do). The Trailstove is so simple it could have been made in the stone age (if they would have had stainless steel). | ||
| POT A light weight pot with a lid or some other type of similar water container is a quite important thing to bring to be able to boil water in case of an emergency. | ||
| MEDICAL KIT A first aid kit in the back pack is well worth the weight it weighs. You never know when you might need it. | ||
| STRING String weighs almost nothing and you always need it when you're out in the woods. Make sure you always have some in your backpack. | ||
| DUCT TAPE I love duct tape, I think it's one of the greatest achievements of our civilization. Just imagine where we would be without duct tape. |
Locate water
The general rule is that water is always down in the bottom of the valley.
Even if you can't see water you can see the signs of water such as greener than usual vegetation, or a string of uniform vegetation, or a flock of birds.
If you need get to where the signs of water are but don't see any water you may decide to dig down, if you do always dig by the largest piece of vegetation, that's where there is most water.
Crater Lake, OR
Crater Lake is widely known for its intense blue color and spectacular views. During summer, visitors may navigate the Rim Drive around the lake, enjoy boat tours on the lake surface, stay in the historic Crater Lake Lodge, camp at Mazama Village, or hike some of the park's various trails including Mt. Scott at 8,929 ft. Diverse interpretive programs enhance visitors' knowledge and appreciation of this national park, 90% of which is managed as wilderness. The winter brings some of the heaviest snowfall in the country, averaging 533 inches per year. Although park facilities mostly close for this snowy season, visitors may view the lake during fair weather, enjoy cross-country skiing, and participate in weekend snowshoe hikes.
